The Diversity in Today’s The News Media Compared to The News Media 40 Years ago.

In the 1970s and even thirty years before that, the majority to almost all of the news cast were white males and few females. In today’s news there is huge diversity in almost every news broadcast station. During the 1950s, the majority of the news’ audience were middle class whites; that could be a reason why the news casts were only made up of whites. Also there was plenty of racism during the 1950s and even the 1970s. Now in todays media, there is even much more women in the in news casts.

The first video that is provided is a report from NBC News during 1970. The anchors and the news reporter are all white males and there is not one female or minority who are giving reports The second video that is provided is a news air from Fox 11 News that took place in 2008. The anchor that is giving the interview is an African-American male named Tony McEwing who has been a news anchor for over fifteen years.  The last video that is provided is a news report from Komo News. In the news report the anchor is an Asian woman and the reporter who is an African-American male.

Forty years ago, it would have been slim to none to see that kind of diversity in the news media. Since there are many businesses that are very diverse, it seems that the media wants to become diverse as well.

How The Media Labels Riots and Uprisings

The media tends to label certain events according to people’s race, ethnicity and the location of the event. One of the media’s job is to persuade their audience on what is wrong and what is right. However, the media takes advantage of that authority, and mislead the audience to believe their statements. When a major conflict erupts between two different groups, the media focuses on who these groups are and where they live. Instead of focusing on what caused the problem, the media bombards us with images of the conflict and government officials statements without recognizing the citizens point of view.

The First and third videos that are provided are about the 1965 Watts, California conflict between African-Americans and the police, and the 1992 Los Angeles conflict between the minorities and the police. In the first film the reporter reports the destruction of the city caused by the conflict. The reporter also refers the citizens involved as “looters”, “thugs”, “hoodlums”, and other derogatory names. The media never discusses what caused the conflict and they do not recognize the African-Americans point of view. The reporter in the video calls the conflict a war zone and a riot when it was clearly not a war zone. in the third video the reporters show footage of the destructions caused by the citizens. The reporters also refer them as gang members and hoodlums. In the video the reporters never discussed what caused the conflict and they also call the conflict a riot. Noticed that these conflicts where in America and mainly retaliations from minorities against white officials. The second in fourth videos are conflicts between citizens in Libia and Egypt and their leaders. The second video shows images of citizens being shot and killed by the military of Libia. The video also shows the destruction caused by the conflict. The Dictator Kadafi ordered the attack against the citizens. The American media does not discuss what caused the conflict and why it occurred. However the media tells us that Kadadfi is a threat to America and that he must be stopped The media calls this conflict an uprising or a protest when it is clearly more than that because people are being killed. In the fourth video, the American media reports the conflict between the citizens of Egypt and their president. The reporters show images of the destructions caused by the citizens which include fires of buildings and property. The media does not report why the conflict occurs, and calls the conflict a protest when it is more than just a protest. Noticed that both of these conflicts are not in America.

When ever there is a Conflict in America between ethnic groups and the government, it is considered a riot to the media. However, if the conflict does not involve ethnic groups or it is in a nother country, it is considered an uprising or protest. What ever the media feeds the public, everyone seems to believe it without looking into the matter themselves.

The Media Only Cares About Male Celebrity Cheaters Not Females

The media exploits cheating celebrity men, but neglects to report female celebrates who cheat. For example, Babyface’s wife recently left him for Wesley Snipes, but the media hasn’t exploiting his wife. Usually people would expect at least magazines to blow out the story, but the radio was the only to report it. The media hasn’t reported a cheating wife in a long time, yet there most be more cheating wife’s out there because man aren’t the only who cheat.  However, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Tiger Woods had every secret out in public within a week.

The first video that I have posted is about Tiger Woods affair and how he was trying to make a change. The second video that I posted is about Arnold Schwarzenegger affair with one of his house keepers. The last video that I posted is about the affair that Brad Pitt had with Angelina Jolie while he was still with his wife Jennifer Aniston. Notice that each of these reports are within a six-year period and that they are both about male celebrities cheating on their wives. It is true that it is more common for men to cheat than it is for women. However their have been cases where women celebrities have cheated with their husbands but the media doesn’t talk about it much and if they do you here bout it for a very short period of time.

The Attire and Appearances of Reporters and Anchors

Most of us know that different news stations have different strategies to attract their audience. However, the one thing that most news stations have in common is how the make they show their anchors and reporters dressed in certain attire and look a certain way. Most of the anchorman are in their late thirties and early through mid fourtys’, and most of the anchorwoman are also in the same age group. Most of the men have deep voices as well as dress and look very serious. As for the women, the look more masculine and they dress in business suits and have short hair. As for the reporters, the men are in their mid thirties and also dressed in a more serious attire; however, their voices are a little more monotone and not as deep as anchorman. The women reporters are, in their late twenties to early thirties, and do not look masculine and they have long hair. However some news stations can change their style of their anchors’ and reporters’ appearances.

The videos above show the similarities and the few differences of how news stations make their reporters and anchors appear on television. The first video the anchor woman is masculine, dresses in business attire like a man, and has a deep voice Her hair is also shorter than the average woman keeps her hair. In the second video, the anchorman is in his late 40s and looks serious, but he has a more out going personality. The anchorwoman on the left of him also is in her fourtys’, but she has long blonde hair and she is wearing a pink dress which doesn’t make her look masculine like the average anchor woman. This is not as common in other news stations just Fox News because they like to be more outgoing and opinionated with their reports and interviews. The third video shows two anchors, one male in his late thirties to early 40s, and one women who is also in her late thirties to early 40s. It also has two reporters, one male in his late thirties, and one female in her late twenties to early thirties. The anchors are both dressed in business attire and look serious with deep voices, and the woman has a short haircut and looks masculine. The reporters arent dressed as serious as the anchors nor do they have deep voices like the anchors. The women reporter is wearing pink and she has long hair which doesn’t make her look masculine.

So there are a lot of similarities between news stations and there are few differences between them. The question is, why do news stations operate this way?

Many Sceptical About bin Laden’s Death Being a Hoax

Since the 911 terror attack at the world trade center, many people all over the world such as: political figures, normal citizens, intelligence experts and many more have been sceptical about 911 being a hoax. On the saddened day America Lost of over three-thousand innocent lives over either a hate for the U.S. way of living, or because of a government scheme that was plotted in order to throw off the American people and engage in war for political reasons. As many of us know, the white house has announced that Osama bin Laden has been killed by U.S. navy seals on May 1st. Many people in America chanted and cheered yelling “It’s over!!”, “We did it!” and “U.S.A!!!”, but the irony of that was the Obama and the commander of the military announced that the fight is not over and that there is even a higher risk over another attack against the U.S. For Obama this is a good time for him because the media has spread the information about Osama being dead all over the world the media keeps talking about it more and more but with the same information; now people are proud of Obama and thinks that he is doing great things for America when a few days ago people were hating him and questioning him on his birth place.

The video provided above talks about the possibility of Osama’s death being a hoax and how the U.S. government has admitted that the photograph of Osama’s death that was provided by media was photo shopped and not real. The photograph in fact was created over three years ago. In the video, Alex Jones has a phone interview with Wayne Madsen and they both discuss how people who worked with bin Laden have said back in 2002 that Osama was dead and frozen and is being kept by the government. The day of the announcing of Osama’s death, experts said that the military’s intelligence had loop holes because the military had known for over three years ago where Osama was hiding, and they waited all of this time to send the order to kill him. The photos presented by the military shows the room where bin Laden was killed. The military said that Osama was in a mansion in Pakistan however, the room looked as if it was either a crack house or a small house that had been damaged before the attack against Osama was made.

Most of the information about Osama being dead had left many loop holes that the government and the military will not explain. What is the government hiding? Is Osama really dead, or is this a scheme for political reasons that many people are sceptical of?

la-na-alabama-storms-obama-20110430,0,2991651.story

National disasters are no strangers to Americans. Since America was built there have been disasters in the country that we have overcome. During the Civil War starting in 1861 there was a tremendous amount of damaged causes from the war. In 2005, before the recession, New Orleans suffered from the rath of Hurricane katrina which left thousands without homes and hundreds dead. Till this day there are still many Americans who are suffering from Katrina and there is still millions of dollars worth of damage that has not been fixed. In 2010, the oil spill in the gulf occurred and left thousands of Americans who make a living by fishing and selling sea food, out of jobs.

Now the disastrous tornadoes in the south have killed close to 300 people with the death toll expected to rise. There have been hundreds of homes destroyed and millions of damaged property. Now that we are in a recession, it will be very difficult for States like Alabama and Mississippi to recover economically. The country is in trillions of dollars in dept, and it is still costing the country money to fix the gulf. The president talks about America will be there to help these states rebuild themselves, but is it even going to be possible for these states to rebuild themselves if the economy is still on the down side?

What is Really Killing The Fish?

la-me-dead-sardines-20110420

anchovies-king-harbor-redondo-beach-117592218.html

Just last month, millions of dead bait fish such as sardines, mackerel, and anchovies washed up in Redondo Beach King Harbor. Scientist and experts claim that it was a lack of oxygen in the harbor therefore the millions of fish suffocated. This week, the same occurence happened in Ventura’s harbor however there wasn’t as many dead fish as Redondo’s harbor. The media has not talked much about both incidents when the problem has not been solved and there are still dead fish floating in the harbors. Many fisherman are concerned with what is happening to the bait fish and what is causing them to swim into harbors by the hundreds and millions because it has affected fishing.

The links above are articles about the bait fish occurence. In the articles, the writers state that the city is going to gather the dead fish and use them as fertilizer. The media has not shared much information to the public on what is really going on. Most of the time commercial bait holdings sell dead bait to make profit eventually it helps the economy in some way because it is taxed. However, why doesn’t the city let the commercial bait companies resell the dead fish for bait  instead of using the fish for fertilizer? If the fish died from suffocation, then they should not have any toxins or bacteria so they should be safe to sell as fishing bait. So why is the media not telling more information about this issue?
